Recycled oak whisky stave.

This is a recycled whisky oak stave with a pewter Celtic knot emblem and bog oak.

The construction of the scottish whisky barrel hasn't changed in hundreds of years and can contribute as much as 60% to the eventual flavour of the amber liquid. This stave came from a  charred barrel which would initially have stored rum, sherry or wine before being used to store Scotch whisky.

I have tried to keep the character of the whisky oak barrel, so have retained some of the blackened oak which was charred before whisky was added to enhance flavour. Unfortunately there is no whisky with it, although there may still be an aroma.

The hilt is black bog oak which has been carbon dated to be over 5000 years old and enhances the colours in the stave.

A piece of history in your hand.

Comes with a black leather embossed scabbard and presentation gift box.

Sgian-dubh (skee-en-doo).  Although the primary meaning of dubh is "black", the secondary meaning of  "hidden" is at the root

of sgian-dubh.   Courtesy and etiquette would demand that when entering the home of a friend, any concealed weapons would be revealed. It follows that the sgian -dubh would be removed from its hiding place and displayed in the stocking top.

It is now worn as part of traditional Scottish dress tucked into the top of the kilt hose with only the  upper portion of the hilt visible.

The item in the picture is the one which will be despatched. I have left the blade unsharpened as they are mainly ornamental.
